Building the business case for prevention and health inequalities: learning from tobacco dependency
Preventative interventions are critical to tackling health inequalities and must move beyond pilot phases to achieve lasting impact as part of neighbourhood health. Using treatment of tobacco dependency as a case study, this session will focus on practical approaches for effective programmes that deliver sustained benefits. Speakers will outline the rapid progress being made with tobacco dependency, enabled by national seed funding for trust-based services, evidence and a commitment to community and VCSE partnership for delivery. Learn how scalability, adaptability and sustainability have been driven, with key elements including a whole-family approach, digital innovations and tiered support, community outreach, and integration through partnership in the BNSSG Smokefree Alliance. This is underpinned by a test-and-learn model, including a peer support programme for relapse prevention and a focus on inequalities.
