From breakthrough to fair access: curative therapies for sickle cell disease

This panel discussion on emerging curative treatments for sickle cell disease will focus on stem cell transplantation and gene-editing therapies, and the challenge of ensuring that scientific breakthroughs translate into fair, timely and trusted access for patients. Chaired by Dr Carl Reynolds, clinical adviser at the NHS Race and Health Observatory and lead for sickle cell inequality, the panel will discuss what ‘cure’ means in sickle cell disease and who is currently eligible; the barriers to fair access; and how we prevent innovation from widening inequality.
