Preparing for the new Mental Health Act for people with a learning disability and autistic people: know your population and put prevention first

Early, person-centred support can prevent unnecessary mental health hospital admissions for people with a learning disability and autistic people. Truly understanding your local population is essential and can help commissioners and providers build strong community services and prepare for Mental Health Act reform. This session will share the perspective of a commissioner working through a delegated model with their local mental health trust, alongside insights from an NHS trust clinician who chairs a national umbrella organisation for intensive and enhanced support. You’ll also hear about experience of local preventative support and the national work shaping this space.
