Reforming oversight and regulation to make it fit for the future

The reforms to NHS oversight and regulation must balance two competing sets of objectives: safeguarding quality, supporting improvement and maintaining accountability against political - often activity-based – targets, while also encouraging system leaders to experiment and think beyond organisational boundaries. The weight of day-to-day accountabilities has historically made the latter too difficult, pulling the system back to familiar ways of working. This session brings together leaders from policy, regulation and delivery to explore how a smaller, more permissive centre, greater public transparency and a revitalised CQC can work together to achieve both.
